steps to apply

Step 1: Get in Touch

Book a tour, fill out an inquiry form, attend an Open House. However you get in touch with us, an admissions specialist will call you to answer all your questions.

Step 2: Book a Tour

A tour gives a prospective family a good sense of the school, allows the family and student to ask questions of our staff, and to learn what Everest Academy has to offer. The tour informs enables you to decide if you would like to move forward with a formal application.

Step 3: Complete an Online Application

Complete the online application form, submit your application fee. Be sure to indicate if you will be applying for Financial Aid. See below to learn more about Financial Aid at Everest.
*If applying for Financial Aid, be sure to complete your financial aid application with Apple Financial Services at the same time as enrolment application.

Step 4: Submit Supporting Documents

Required documents include:

Academic Documents:
Up-to-date Ontario Secondary School Transcripts or Primary school report cards from the last three years
If applicable, a copy of the student’s current IEP

Identification:
A copy of the student’s birth certificate or passport

Two letters of recommendation (minimum):
One letter from a current teacher
One letter from a coach, a past teacher or school administrator

Application Fee (non-refundable):
$250 CAD

Step 5: Student Spend the Day at Everest

After evaluating the prospective student’s application, the Admissions committee may move your son or daughter forward to the Shadow Day stage where a visit can occur. Students who make it to this stage will be contacted by Admissions to set up a day for your son or daughter to come in and spend the day at Everest. This provides the prospective student with an opportunity to see if Everest is right for them, while at the same time allowing us the opportunity to further assess the prospective student. Classroom teachers and athletic instructors provide feedback on the student and the Admissions Committee uses these to evaluate moving the prospective student to the next phase.

Step 6: Interview Process

Applicants who make it to this stage will potentially be contacted for an individualized interview. Typically we meet with the prospective student for 10-15 minutes (which can also occur during the Shadow Day). The interview is conversational so that we can learn about the prospective student, their likes and dislikes, to get a sense of them as a person; there are no right or wrong answers. We discourage parents from coaching their sons and daughters with prepared answers.

Step 7: Notice of Admissions Decision

Families will be notified as to their son/daughter's acceptance to Everest Academy through receipt of a Notice of Admissions email. Those families receiving an offer will have two weeks to notify Everest Academy of their decision to accept or decline the offer. The first instalment of payment is due upon acceptance of the offer in order to reserve a spot for that student.

FINANCIAL AID

Everest Academy offers a tuition assistance program in the form of Financial Aid grants. Our Financial Aid approach uses a needs-based model. Those families seeking tuition assistance must fill out their Financial Aid application through Apple Financial Services. Apple Financial is a third party service used by Independent and Private Schools to assess a family’s financial position. This service provides us with a fair and consistent model for allocating the school’s Financial Aid budget. Families complete the Apple Financial application online. Once assessed by Apple Financial, a recommended affordability amount is sent to the school(s). Everest Academy’s Financial Aid committee then reviews the recommendation and makes a final decision. A student’s amount of Financial Aid does not impact the school’s decision to offer admission to the prospective student. Financial Aid is renewable each year and families must reapply each year. All financial information is kept strictly confidential, as is the disclosure of the amount of Financial Aid that has been afforded to each family who applies and is approved. There is a small budget allocated for merit-based financial aid that is awarded to families for exceptional circumstances.

WHAT MAKES AN EVEREST STUDENT?

Most of our students are high level or aspiring high level athletes and compete at the elite, club, provincial, or national team level. Because many of our students are working towards athletic-based scholarships at the University level, Everest students must be able to excel academically and in their sport of interest. Equally important is our student’s overall development and therefore character is one of the key characteristics we look for in prospective students.
